Description

The tomb of Owhadi Maraghei is one of the most important tombs and memorial buildings in Maragheh. Next to Owhadi's tomb, a museum has been built, known as the Ilkhanate Museum. This museum displays important artifacts from the Ilkhanate period (13th and 14th centuries AD). During this period, Maragheh held the title of the capital of Iran and was highly regarded. The tomb building was constructed between 1974 and 1978 AD (1353 to 1357 in the Iranian calendar).

Rokn al-Din Owhadi Esfahani Maraghei was born in 1274 AD (673 AH) in Maragheh. He was a mystic and Persian-speaking poet. Several of his poetic works remain, including the poem "Jam Jam." Owhadi's ancestors were from Isfahan; he also lived there for some time during his life and composed poems in the local dialect, but ultimately returned to Maragheh and passed away there on April 14, 1338 AD (15 Ramadan 738 AH). After his death, Owhadi was buried in a lush garden, and a tomb was built over his grave.

Owhadi's tomb was registered on the list of Iran's national heritage sites in 2008 AD (1386 in the Iranian calendar).
