The Nowshahr Botanical Garden, known as the Hyrcanian Arboretum, is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the country. The purpose of establishing this garden was to preserve rare and endangered species as well as to educate all people. This garden was opened in 1931 and is considered one of the satellite botanical gardens of Tehran. Various sections have been established in the Nowshahr Botanical Garden, including the bulb plants section, tropical plants greenhouse, arboretum, medicinal plants section, native fruits section, coniferous plants section, moss section, and educational greenhouse, which are among the most important. More than 23,000 plant species are maintained in the Nowshahr Botanical Garden, and it has one of the largest standard moss collections.
