Anzali Wetland (in Gilaki: Anzali Sool) is one of the most important and beautiful wetlands in Iran and even the Middle East, located in Gilan Province near the city of Bandar Anzali. This wetland is registered in the Ramsar Convention's list of international wetlands due to its high biodiversity, pristine nature, and ecological importance.
Feeding rivers: The most important of them are the Sefidrud, Pirbazar, Shileh Rud, and Zarjoob rivers.
Connection to the sea: It is connected to the Caspian Sea through the shipping canal.
Vegetation:
Extensive reed beds, wetland tulips (symbol of Anzali Wetland), floating plants such as water hyacinth (an invasive species).
Animals:
Birds: More than 100 species including ducks, swans, flamingos, pelicans, and fish-eating birds.
Fish: White fish, carp, duck fish, and native species such as Sof Haji Tarkhan.
Mammals: Otter, shang (a type of sea otter).
Boating:
Touring with motorboats or rowboats in the wetland channels and observing reed beds and birds.
Sunset watching:
The sunset view in the wetland with the reflection of light on the water is very famous.
Natural park of the wetland:
On the eastern side of the wetland, facilities such as a pier and walking paths exist.
Birdwatching:
The best season to observe migratory birds is autumn and winter.
