The White River Dam or Manjil Dam is a dam built at the beginning of the large White River where the two rivers Qezel Ozan and Shahroud join near Manjil. It is used to regulate the water of these two rivers for agriculture in the Gilan plain and also for electricity generation.
During its construction and early operation period, this dam was known as the White River Dam. Since 1967, it was named Shahbanu Farah Dam. Since 1978, it has been called by its original name, the White River Dam.
Construction of this dam began in 1956 and was completed in 1961; it is the first dam in Iran. Operation of the dam started on May 19, 1962. The height of the dam from the riverbed is 92 meters and the length of its crest is 425 meters. The White River Dam has five power generation units that together produce more than 87 megawatts of electricity.
Kaleshtar spring is located one kilometer downstream from the dam and is worth seeing.
