Description

The Moon Qanat is one of the tourist attractions around Isfahan in Ardestan, known as the only two-level qanat in the world, where water flows independently on each level without the upper qanat water penetrating the lower qanat water. Additionally, it may be interesting to know that the water of these two qanats differs in terms of flow rate and hardness; the lower qanat water is warmer and harder, while the upper qanat water is sweet, light, and cool. The qanat water is used for irrigating the gardens and farms of the Moon neighborhood, and part of it flows to the village of Telkabad.

This unparalleled masterpiece, showcasing ancient engineering science, has been registered as the twentieth world heritage site of Iran. The qanat's length reaches about four kilometers within the city of Ardestan, and the depth of its mother well is 31 meters; moreover, there are nearly 40 wells along this path.
