Description

The Jameh Mosque, also known as Shah Mosque and Imam Mosque, was built during the Safavid era by order of Shah Abbas I. This mosque is one of the tourist attractions of Isfahan, registered along with Naqsh-e Jahan Square as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The mosque was designed and constructed by the master architect Ali Akbar Esfahani under the supervision of Moheb Ali Beykollah. The striking beauty of this mosque is mainly due to its unparalleled architecture, tile work, and carpentry used in its construction. It is a unique example of Iranian-Islamic architecture, decorated with arabesque patterns and inscriptions beautifully calligraphed by great calligraphers such as Alireza Abbasi, Mohammad Reza Emami, Mohammad Saleh Emami, and Abdolbaghi Tabrizi.

An interesting fact you should know about the Jameh Mosque is that if you stand at the center of the mosque's dome and speak, your voice echoes throughout the entire courtyard.
