The Sheikh Moaz al-Din Mosque is one of the historical buildings and tourist attractions of Maragheh and is located near the city market. This mosque is also known as the "Salar Khaneh Mosque" because it is situated in a neighborhood with the same name.
The Sheikh Moaz al-Din Mosque dates back to before the Safavid era; however, according to the marble inscription on the southern wall, Shah Tahmasp I was the first to order the mosque's reconstruction, and later another restoration took place during the Qajar period. Unfortunately, due to repeated alterations, the mosque lacks remarkable architectural features; however, its special characteristics include the historical tombstones in the courtyard, two large and small prayer halls, and of course the marble tombstone of Moaz al-Din.
