Description

The Shiraz Natural History Museum was opened in 1974 and about 6 years later its building was moved to its current location, Azadegan Street. This museum operates under Shiraz University and houses a large collection of over 1055 species of animals (including various vertebrates and invertebrates), 60 species of plants, and even 70-million-year-old fossils. The main goal of this museum is to display various species of animals, plants, and fossils and to raise public awareness about nature and the animal species around them. In this museum, you can see interesting specimens such as animals, live snakes, a two-headed goat kid, a four-legged chicken, a two-headed calf, an eight-legged lamb, and a four-horned ram. Another interesting exhibit of the museum is a relief of Siyah Khan Lapui, a man 256 cm tall who suffered from gigantism. Other sections of the museum include technology, art, technical workshop and taxidermy, anatomy, audio-visual, and library.
