Naqsh-e Jahan Square, with all its unique features, is undoubtedly one of the most important tourist attractions in Isfahan. This square was formerly known as "Shah Square" and after the revolution, its name was changed to "Imam Square."
Imam Square is a rectangular space measuring 560 meters in length and 160 meters in width. Its construction and the surrounding buildings took years to reach the form we see today. Naqsh-e Jahan is the second largest square in the world and is globally famous as one of Isfahan's attractions. Naqsh-e Jahan, a historic site dating back to the Safavid era, was once a place for celebrations and polo games. In 1934, it was listed in Iran's national heritage and in 1979 it became one of the first Iranian sites registered on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Naqsh-e Jahan Square is an attraction full of details. A collection of historic buildings including the Abbasi Grand Mosque (Imam Mosque), Ali Qapu Palace, Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, and the Qeysarieh Gate are located in this square.
