In the beautiful city of Anzali, there are three churches, one of which is the Holy Mary Church. This church was built in 1885 AD, during the Qajar period, by a person named Avak Malekollah Vardian, who was from the Armenians of Bandar Anzali and built this church at his own expense.
The Holy Mary Church has a simple appearance and a rectangular plan, with entrances located on the north, south, and west sides; the altar of the church is located on the eastern side. On both sides of the altar, there are several small rooms, and the area around the altar is decorated with beautiful plasterwork. The church's bell tower is located above the western entrance, and its dome rests on six columns.
Visiting this church can be an interesting experience when traveling to the port city of Anzali; especially if you visit during the New Year or special religious occasions of the Armenians, you can enjoy watching their interesting customs with the church's permission.
