Description

The tomb of Mohammad Momen Mashhadi, one of the great mystics and scholars of the Safavid era, which is now known as the Green Dome, is located on Akhound Khorasani Street in the city of Mashhad. According to studies, this tomb was built in the year 1058 AH. The reason for naming the tomb the Green Dome is the green tile work on the dome of the mausoleum. This tomb is considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Mashhad after the shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and was registered on the list of national heritage sites of Iran on April 25, 1977.

The Green Dome of Mashhad was built by order of Shah Abbas Safavi over the grave of Sheikh Mohammad Momen Mashhadi. The beautiful dome of this tomb is its most attractive part, which at night is illuminated with very striking green lighting.
