Description

The blessed shrine of Ali ibn Mujahid

The exact date of the initial construction of the tomb is unknown and it has been repaired at various times. According to the inscription installed on the right side of the entrance to the Imam Hasan Mojtaba Mosque (peace be upon him), its repair took place in the year 1280 AH. The text is as follows:

The mere new repair of this blessed shrine, according to the order of the high deputies, Hajieh Shahzadeh, may her dignity endure, the daughter of mercy and forgiveness, deputy of the late Fathali Shah Qajar, may God sanctify his grave, was completed. Year 1280.

Karnak has seen the old building of the shrine closely and describes it as follows:

"The courtyard of the tomb has a narrow corridor; on its southern side there is a mosque with one dome, and on the two northern sides there is a small courtyard for the caretaker and an adjacent room. At the eastern end of the large courtyard, opposite the entrance door, there is a vaulted tomb and a shrine with a large dome and four minarets erected without caps at its four corners. The first tomb serves as the vestibule of the shrine and from its southern side a door opens into the shrine. The shrine is quadrangular and each side is about six meters long."
