Description

Tehran's Azadi Tower commemorates the 2500-year celebrations

The Azadi Tower, which today is one of the symbols of Tehran city, was built as a memorial for the 2500-year celebrations of the monarchy. This tower, as a symbol of Tehran, is one of the most important tourist attractions in Tehran. Before the revolution, the Azadi Tower was called Shahyad Tower. In the past, almost everyone who came to Tehran from other cities enthusiastically took souvenir photos with this symbol of modern Iran. The story of the construction of the Azadi Tower is that in 1966 a competition was held among Iranian architects to select the best design for Iran's identification symbol. Among all the designs, Hossein Amanat's design was chosen, which resulted in today's Azadi Tower.

The Azadi Tower is a combination of Achaemenid, Sassanid, and Islamic architectural styles. A point that many tourists may be unaware of is that beneath the Azadi Tower there is an art gallery, a library, and a museum. So if you visit the Azadi Tower, do not overlook the basement and the tower's museum.
