The mausoleum of Sheikh Taj al-Din Mahmoud Khivi belongs to the early centuries of the historical periods after Islam, the Ilkhanate era, and is located 6 kilometers from the main road from Astara to Ardabil. This monument was registered as one of Iran's national heritage sites on August 27, 1973, with registration number 951. It is one of the religious and historical places of the city of Astara in Gilan province, attributed to the scholar and mystic of the 8th and 9th centuries AH, Sheikh Taj al-Din Mahmoud Khivi. This mausoleum is considered one of the spiritual and cultural attractions of the region and is respected by the local people and pilgrims. Sheikh Taj al-Din Mahmoud Khivi was a renowned scholar and mystic of the 8th and 9th centuries AH (Timurid period) who was active in the Astara region and its surroundings.
Some sources consider him one of the Sufi sheikhs and a student or disciple of the mystical school of Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili (ancestor of the Safavid kings).
This mausoleum has been regarded throughout history by rulers and local people and has been preserved as a pilgrimage and cultural site.
Architecture of the mausoleum
