Khaqani Park
In the past, in the western and southern area of the Kabood Mosque, there was a garden and a khanqah which was a place of worship for jurists, Sufi dervishes, and sheikhs. Due to the earthquake of 1193 AH, the belongings of the Mozaffarieh building and the Kabood Mosque were completely destroyed, and the courtyard of the Mozaffarieh building turned into a ruined cemetery. Some of the victims of the Tabriz earthquake were buried in this area, until in 1308 SH this cemetery was transformed by Mohammad Ali Khan Tarbiat, the then mayor of Tabriz, into a public garden and urban recreational park. At that time, the people of Tabriz named this garden “Sumukli Bagh” meaning “Bone Garden” because of the presence of the bones of the earthquake victims in the garden.
