Description

Rokhshandeh E'tesami, known as «Parvin E'tesami», is the most famous female poet of Iran who was born in Esfand 1285 (March 1907) in a house in the Sheshgolan neighborhood of Tabriz. Today, her birthplace has become one of the tourist attractions and sights of Tabriz.

The house where this poet was born has a total area of 1,300 square meters and since its opening has been the permanent location for exhibitions of the East Azerbaijan Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization. Few people know this house and realize that this place is the birthplace of the great lady of Iranian poetry.

Parvin E'tesami married at the age of 28 but due to ideological differences with her husband, she divorced him one year after marriage. Parvin's husband was her cousin, «Faslollah E'tesami», a strict military officer and police officer. Their separation was due to his rigid personality and lack of understanding with a poet of such a delicate spirit.

While Parvin was alive, only one collection of her poems was published, and the second edition coincided with her untimely death. Parvin's divan contains 606 poems including masnavi, qit'a, and qasida forms. This great lady of Persian poetry died at the age of 35 due to typhoid and is currently buried in the family tomb at the shrine of Fatemeh Masoumeh. Her birthday, 25 Esfand, is named Parvin E'tesami Commemoration Day.
