The underground city of Kord Olya is one of the unique attractions of the province. This city, discovered in 2016, covers more than 20,000 square meters and dates back to the Parthian period. The story of the construction of the underground city is that the people of the village of Kord Olya, during the time of Shah Abbas I Safavid, created hand-dug tunnels under the village houses to protect themselves and their livestock from the cold winters and insecurity in the region. These tunnels had wide corridors and interconnected small rooms, and over time, with the migration of Armenians, this underground city lost its function.
