Description

Pashto Castle, also known as Pashtab Castle, is one of the historical fortresses of Hurand County in East Azerbaijan Province. This castle is located near the village of Pashtab, 50 kilometers from Ahar and 12 kilometers west of Hurand, atop a rocky mountain about 3,000 meters above sea level. The strategic position of Pashto Castle, with high rocky walls and deep cliffs around it, has made it an impregnable fortress.

Inside the castle, remains of stairs and hand-carved rooms in the mountain rock can be seen, showing its unique architecture. Based on explorations and research conducted in this area, the age of Pashto Castle dates back to the Parthian period and may have even been used during the Sassanian era. This castle was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran in Azar 1387 (December 2008).
