The Damavand Grand Mosque is located in the eastern part of Damavand city, built on the heights overlooking the city. This mosque is built on the remains of another old mosque.
According to documents and records, the age of this mosque dates back to the Seljuk era. However, some archaeologists and experts believe that the mosque is older and was built before the Seljuk period.
Some also believe that this historic mosque initially served as a fire temple and was later converted into a mosque. This is because in areas where Islam was introduced as a new religion, the religious buildings of those places were converted into mosques.
