Description

Esnaq Stone Mosque

The Esnaq Mosque is located in the village of Esnaq and dates back to the Ilkhanate period. Features of this mosque include large columns with muqarnas-decorated capitals and carved windows. This mosque, which is also registered on Iran's national heritage list, was restored in 2003. Inside the mosque, there is a very old wooden pulpit that has been largely damaged. However, it clearly shows that skilled artists spent a lot of time making it. On the old inscriptions left on the pulpit, the phrase "Sahib Fakhr al-Din Muhammad" is engraved, which is actually the name of the mosque's founder. Also engraved on this piece are the mosque's founding date, the year 733 AH, and the name Malekshah, who was the artist who built the mosque.
