Description

Faramarz Khan Caravanserai

The Faramarz Khan Caravanserai is one of the tourist attractions of Sabzevar, located west of Kargar Square, dating back to the Qajar era. Faramarz Khan is known as a four-iwan caravanserai built using natural and accessible materials such as brick, sand, wood, lime, and plaster. The most important interior decorations of this caravanserai are geometric designs created with ochre painting applied on the bricks. The courtyard of the caravanserai is open-air and, besides the four main iwans, it also had booths that served as resting places for caravans. Behind the northern, western, and eastern rooms of the caravanserai, there are long halls that were once used as loading docks, storage, and stables. However, these are all things of the past; now part of this caravanserai, which is one of Sabzevar's attractions, has been converted into a museum, and if you pay attention, you can hear the hustle and bustle of workers and caravans.
