Hovhannes Church is the only church for Catholic Armenians in the city of Maragheh. The church dates back to the 5th or 6th century AD, but the building of Hovhannes Church was rebuilt in 1840 by Russian and French architects. The name of this church is taken from one of the apostles of Jesus Christ, named Hovhannes, Hovhannes, or John. This church has a simple and brick but attractive and scenic structure. The church's bell tower is star-shaped and 12 meters high, which makes the bell tower visible from other places in the city of Maragheh. Hovhannes Church of Maragheh, with an area of 258 square meters, is one of the 15 works registered in the fifth national conference of the Cultural Heritage Registration Policy Council, listed as a national heritage site.
