Hakim Abu al-Qasim Ferdowsi was born in 923 AH in Paj. Ferdowsi was forty years old when he continued the work of a thousand verses (Daqiqi Tousi). He began the composition of national stories and completed it with sixty thousand verses. At the age of sixty-five, his connection with Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni was established, but this good relationship did not last more than a few years. Eventually, Ferdowsi spent the final years of his life in poverty until he died in 114 and according to some, 614 AH in Tous and was buried in his garden near the Darzan gate. However, in the early fourteenth century solar, a group of scholars who had founded the National Works Association sought to create a mausoleum worthy of Ferdowsi. This mausoleum was built in two stages. The current mausoleum building, inspired by pre-Islamic architectural styles, was constructed in 1331 with a base area of 549 square meters after a series of developments. The lower floor of the mausoleum has murals by Fereydoun Sedighi depicting the Seven Labors of Rostam and images of Iranian kings, which add to the grandeur of this place.
