Sheikh Shahab al-Din Ahari was a mystic and poet of the 7th century AH. Sheikh Shahab al-Din Mahmoud Ahari, son of Ahmad Ahari, was born on the 15th of Sha'ban 580 AH in the city of Ahar. In most old books, Sheikh Shahab al-Din is mentioned by the names Shahab al-Din Mahmoud Tabrizi and Shahab al-Din Mahmoud al-Tabrizi al-Atiqi al-Ahari. The title Shahab al-Din was given to him by his master and mentor, Sheikh Rukn al-Din Sajasi. This khanqah was converted into the Museum of Literature and Mysticism in 1374 (Iranian calendar), which is the only museum of mysticism in Iran. The tomb of Sheikh Shahab al-Din Ahari was most likely built during the Safavid era, probably in the time of Shah Abbas I, over the grave of Sheikh Shahab al-Din Ahari in the city of Ahar. A written work by this mystic thinker named "Eshq-nameh" (Book of Love) remains, which contains his mystical beliefs and ideas. This great mystic passed away in 665 AH and was buried in the courtyard of his khanqah.
